A great way to put it! We need, as an industry, to get better at explaining it in these terms.

I like making these metaphors but am constantly sceptical by the numbers. Do you think they are far off from realism?

The order of magnitude seems right, I spent yesterday debugging why a system isn't working that was expected and believed to be. It's been broken for a while and not spotted for lack of a test.

that test would have taken hours to write, versus the debug time and impact of it being broken in production.
